Lake Baikal is the deepest lake on Earth and the largest reservoir of liquid freshwater among lakes. Its age is estimated at about 25–30 million years, making it one of the oldest lakes on the planet. More than 1,000 animal species live there that are found nowhere else in the world, making up about 60% of its fauna.
