M87*

The black hole M87* lies at the centre of the giant galaxy Messier 87. Its image, published in 2019, became the first direct visual evidence of a black hole's shadow. Its event horizon is just under 40 billion kilometres across, and its mass is about 6.5 billion times that of the Sun.
