RATAN-600 is the largest radio telescope in the world and is located in Karachay-Cherkessia, Russia. Unlike ordinary telescopes, RATAN-600 observes not visible light but radio waves coming from the Sun, galaxies, quasars, and other distant objects. The name RATAN stands for "Radio Telescope of the Academy of Sciences."
